Cozumel Recommendations?
We are going on a 4 day cruise on the Fantasy in December 2009 with 79 yo mom (active but with 2 'total hip replacements' & not a swimmer) & her much more active & swimmer SO ( he's...

I've never been to Cozumel so I can't be of much help, but how long is the ship in port?
View ArticleRe: Cozumel Recommendations?
Oh, thanks for asking - I thought I'd stated. It's just a day. Not an overnight.
View ArticleRe: Cozumel Recommendations?
Sorry, OSB, I'm not familiar with that part of Mexico either, although I've been to Merida and Chichen Itza. Snorkeling should be good though.
View ArticleRe: Cozumel Recommendations?
Yes, ChiChi, it's supposed to be renown for it's snorkeling. I'm just a bit apprehensive that the water may be too cool for it in December? I don't want to lug my snorkeling gear if so. It's not a...

Depends where you are snorkeling from. If it's from shore, the water should be warm. After all, this is where people go for mid-winter beach vacations. Even offshore I think it should be tolerable....
View ArticleRe: Cozumel Recommendations?
I'm not sure - whatever strikes me, I guess - & maybe just window shopping. Is there anything in particular that you recommend?

The Yucatan hammocks are wonderful -- get a "matrimonio" which is double size. You lay in it perpendicular, rather than the way we usually think of laying in a hammock. Like THIS. Other stuff, it it's...
View ArticleRe: Cozumel Recommendations?
I, in fact, had printed out some online info last night about how to buy a hammock. I'm not sure I have a place for one, but mom should. The picture you show is certainly a colorful & attractive...

Technically, yes, but you're talking to a southerner, after all

Cozumel... we just strolled through the village, and went out to some long-named place for snorkelling. I think we just took a taxi, not a biggie. I wish we had gone to the ruins--is it Chizen Itzu?
View ArticleRe: Cozumel Recommendations?
Chichen Itza is a ferry & bus or car ride of 250km which would eat a hole in the day. Maybe save that for longer stay. Initially, I investigated visiting Tulum ruins( 81Km) or visiting one or two...
View ArticleRe: Cozumel Recommendations?
Well, the village is nice, think maybe two to three blocks of shops to explore. I will ask Dave about the snorkelling if you need that name of the beach, but I think you've probably scoped that out...
View ArticleRe: Cozumel Recommendations?
Chichen Itza is well worth a visit if you like archaeological sites. I'm into that sort of stuff, so I wasn't about to miss it when we were in Merida. (In fact, my travel companions went to the market...
View ArticleRe: Cozumel Recommendations?
Tulum is tempting, but I can't make up my mind to separate & go - still a possibility though. I imagine you are meaning Chankanaab National Park for the snorkeling. I'm reading in a couple places...
View ArticleRe: Cozumel Recommendations?
That's the one, OSB, I didn't even keep notes on that trip, sorry. We met my brother and family in Cozumel, and that was the main focus. The place is small enough that my brother said, "we'll meet you...

Hey - about ten years ago we went to Cancun and Playa del Carmen at Christmas time, and the water was WONDERFUL. We did lots of snorkeling. Playa del Carmen is very near to Cozumel (I think there's a...
View ArticleRe: Cozumel Recommendations?
Yes, Diane, it's a 15 minute ferry ride away from Playa del Carmen. Thank you for the reassurance. Now I know I'll try to pack some gear.
